Genesis--Like We've Never Heard It Before

My husband and I had been meeting with some Christians for a number of years. They had decided to review the book of Genesis. We were disappointed with this decision at first because we had both been Christians for a long time and had heard the stories in Genesis over and over. We expressed our dismay to the teacher because we were hoping for something deeper, but he told us to “just wait and see”.

We soon found out that he was right. We were not disappointed. Every week Genesis was opened to us more and more. For example, Genesis 1:9 says, “…and let the dry land appear.” The dry land appeared on the third day. “So,” we said. The teacher replied, “The land signifies Christ and the 3rd day signifies resurrection.” Then he proceeded to point out how Christ signifies the land and the 3rd day signifies resurrection, using verses throughout the Bible to substantiate these points. Another example is in Genesis 1:26 where it says, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” We are made in God’s image. We are vessels made to contain God. And one more example is that there were two trees in the Garden of Eden: the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and the Tree of Life. The first tree signifies Satan as the source of death and the second tree signifies God as the source of life. When God placed Adam in front of the two trees, He intended for Adam to eat from the Tree of Life, meaning that He wanted Adam to take Himself as life and everything. Instead, he ate of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, and the rest is history.

This is just the itty, bitty tip of the iceberg of all the revelations in Genesis, and there’s more of them than are written here. We spent a year going over Genesis and only made it half-way through. It finally dawned on us to ask this teacher where he was getting all this revelation. He said it was from the Life-Study of Genesis by Witness Lee. We asked him more about Witness Lee and the local churches, and he told us there was a group of believers meeting in our city (Albuquerque). We went to meet with them and have been meeting there ever since. We are eternally grateful that the Lord showed us this way.

Witness Lee has written a “Life-Study” on every book in the Bible. Over the last four years, my husband and I have read the Life-Studies of Genesis through Deuteronomy and also Ephesians. It has taken us so long because these books are not novels that you can read in a weekend. They are deep books with much revelation.
